Lewes in Bloom to host garden market and plant sale May 27

May 23, 2023

Lewes in Bloom members have been busy dividing their prized perennials, and selecting the best annuals and herbs for their yearly garden plant sale and flea market set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 27, at the warehouse by the water tower on Schley Avenue in Lewes. Convenient street parking is available.

This year’s sale will feature a variety of flowers, plants and garden-related items. There will be a selection of pollinator plants that support wildlife such as hummingbirds, butterflies and honeybees, whose numbers have been in decline. Hanging baskets, unique and decorative tin pocket planters, and a flea market with gently used garden accessories also will be offered.

Mosaic artist and Lewes in Bloom member Sue Sandmeyer has donated a stunning birdhouse to be raffled. Lewes in Bloom merchandise available for purchase includes aprons, hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts, the group’s famous cookbook and more.

Lewes in Bloom is a volunteer organization of more than 350 members. Each year, its volunteers give thousands of hours planting thousands of bulbs and plants throughout the city to promote the beautification and maintenance of Historic Lewes. The group is dedicated to helping Lewes enhance its attractiveness through historic preservation, environmental awareness, a children’s garden, a pollinator garden, floral displays and more.

With Lewes in Bloom’s assistance, Lewes won the 2018 Communities in Bloom International Challenge Award for the most beautiful medium-sized town in the world, and it was the only town in the United States invited to participate in a 2019 public garden project in Cervia, Italy.

In 2022, Lewes in Bloom won the America in Bloom award for the Most Beautiful Small Town in America.
