Lewes in Bloom launches first fundraising campaign

July 31, 2020

For almost 20 years, Lewes in Bloom has made a delightfully visual experience with flowers blossoming in 20 locations in its historic town.

The efforts of its all-volunteer, 280-member organization make this possible.

Lewes in Bloom is the winner of five national and international beautification awards, the result of 10,000 volunteer hours each year.

For the first time, the nonprofit is reaching out to the community for support with its Bucks for Blooms initiative. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, business and municipal sponsorships are diminished. Facing such a deficit means it is possible Lewes in Bloom won't be able to continue planting blooms in the coming year.

To mark the progress of the Bucks in Bloom campaign goal to raise $50,000, volunteers have erected a giant tulip on Second Street in downtown Lewes.

Lewes in Bloom founder Warren Golde said, “LIB has come a long way in our nearly 20 years of existence, and we now plant over 6,000 annuals and 20,000 tulips each year. Your donation will help continue this endeavor, which in these troubled times of COVID-19, has lifted the spirits of all who live and visit here. Of course, LIB members are most happy when they hear visitors and locals say, ‘Lewes just wouldn't be Lewes without all the flowers.’”
