Lewes couple celebrates 65 years together

March 26, 2013

Frank and Rose Emick of Lewes recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with family and friends. They had their marriage blessed by Father Mark Connelly at St. Jude's Catholic Church. They were married Aug. 30, 1947, in Clearfield, Pa.

They moved to Lewes in July 1981 from Olean, N.Y., where they owned and operated Emick Upholstery for 27 years. They moved the business to Lewes on Savannah Road, where Frank ran it until 2007, when he reluctantly retired at the age of 87 due to failing eyesight. Rose worked as a decorator at both Gibb's and Shinn's paint stores, and more recently was in fashion retail for The Figurehead and Twila Farrell. She retired in 2011 at the age of 84 to spend time at home with her husband.

The couple have four children: Paul Emick of Seaford; Sharon Fougher (John) of New Fairfield, Conn.; Diane Emick-Smith of Olean, N.Y.; and Leslie Swift of Lewes. They have 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

They continue to enjoy walks on the Boardwalk, dining out, jazz festival, happy hour at Dogfish Head or Timothy's and cuddling on Frank's chair every night before bed.
