Lewes honors those who serve city

The City of Lewes honored the 120th anniversary of the Zwaanendael Women’s Club with a proclamation Oct. 13. The nonprofit contributes donations and volunteer hours to organizations like the Lewes Public Library, Lewes in Bloom, Epworth Food Pantry and many others. The City of Lewes honored those who serve the city during a mayor and city council meeting Oct. 13.

Honorees include the Zwaanendael Women’s Club, the Lewes Beach Patrol and former Lewes Planning Commission member and chair Melanie Moser.

The Lewes Beach Patrol was named the city’s Extra Mile heroes for 2025. It received a proclamation in council chambers Oct. 13. Extra Mile Day is an annual recognition held across the country Nov. 1, honoring individuals and organizations that go the extra mile in service and positive action. Bill has worked in his hometown of Philadelphia, as well as Atlanta and Washington, D.C. He came to Lewes in 2014 to help launch WRDE-TV. Bill served as WRDE’s news director for more than eight years, working in Lewes and Milton. He is a 1986 graduate of Penn State University. Bill is an avid aviation and wildlife photographer, and a big Penn State football, Eagles, Phillies and PGA Tour golf fan. Bill, his wife Jill and their rescue cat, Lucky, live in Rehoboth Beach.
