January 18, 2023

A Lewes man faces assault and weapon charges in connection with a shooting incident on New Year’s Day.

Delaware State Police say Michael Ruduszewski, 40, shot another man, 45, at 2:46 p.m., Jan. 1, while the man sat in his car at the Express Food Mart on Route 40 in Bear, said Sr. Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police.

Ruduszewski fired one round at the man, striking him in the upper extremity, Hatchell said. Ruduszewski then fled the scene; the victim drove himself to the emergency room. Police provided no further information on the victim.

Police developed Ruduszewski as a suspect, Hatchell said, and after obtaining a warrant took him into custody without incident Jan. 17 while he was leaving a home in Newark. A Glock handgun that had been reported stolen out of Pennsylvania was found in the home, Hatchell said.

Ruduszewski was taken to Troop 2 and charged with felony second-degree assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in default of $30,000 secured bond.
