Lewes man faces sexual offense charges

September 23, 2021

A 34-year-old man is facing felony charges after allegedly committing a sexual offense with a minor.

About 2 p.m., Sept. 22, the Lewes Police Department was notified of Jamel Jackson’s alleged offense and immediately initiated an investigation.

Jackson fled from the residence prior to the report being made, police say. During the day, police say, Jackson made several social media posts in which he threatened to end his life. Numerous Lewes police officers were involved in a daylong search for Jackson, and with the help of cellphone tracking, police were able to pinpoint a location near a bike trail in Lewes. Police responded to the area, located Jackson, and took him into custody without incident.

Jackson was charged with first-degree unlawful sexual contact and second-degree sexual abuse of a child less than 13 years of age by a person of trust. Both are felony offenses.

Jackson was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $20,000 cash only bail.
