Lewes teen arrested for felony vehicle theft
Delaware State Police arrested a 16-year-old Lewes teen and a 15-year-old Claymont boy for allegedly stealing a car and leading police on a chase in Claymont.
At 9:48 p.m., Nov. 20, police said officers observed a tan 2008 Volvo XC9 with Pennsylvania tags driving at a high rate of speed on Darley Road near the I-95 overpass. After a vehicle check found the car was stolen, police said, officers tried to stop the car. However, the boys did not stop and led police on a chase. The Volvo then pulled into a private parking lot where the teens left the car and fled on foot. The boys were eventually apprehended without incident.
The Lewes boy was charged with felony counts of receiving stolen property over $1,500 and disregarding a police officer’s signal. He was also charged with resisting arrest, criminal mischief and various traffic offenses. The Claymont boy was charged with resisting arrest. The teens were arraigned and released to a guardian after posting bond.
