Lewes Tomato Festival offers a slice of summer

August 6, 2025

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market hosted its popular Tomato Festival Aug. 2 in George H.P. Smith Park.

Vendors came ready with a wide variety of tomatoes for patrons. The market also offered tomato tattoos for kids, gave attendees the opportunity to guess the number of tomatoes in a cylindrical container and awarded prizes for the largest tomatoes grown.

The winners of the largest tomato contest included Stag Run Farm in first with a German Johnson pink heirloom, Tom Paranzino in second with a red morning hybrid and Caribe Locavore Farm in third with a Nuri PK slicer hybrid.

At the demonstration tent, Chef Bill Clifton of the Lewes Yacht Club showed the audience how to prepare a stuffed tomato Greek salad with whipped feta and a tomato vinaigrette, using fresh tomatoes and cucumbers from Fifer Orchards, Nash's Veggies and Cosmic Dog Farm.

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market operates every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon in George H.P. Smith Park. A Wednesday market is held from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at Crooked Hammock Brewery.
