Cape lacrosse captain Lizzie Frederick was recently named co-Player of the Year along with Abby Manning by the Delaware Girls’ Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Frederick, a four-year starter and returning all-state midfielder, moved to attack as a senior and produced a prolific season of scoring balance with 66 goals and 34 assists for a perfect 100-point season. She is heading to Temple University in the fall to play for coach Bonnie Rosen. There she joins her sister Anna on the Owls’ roster along with former Cape player Taylor Gooch.
Manning, like Frederick, was a lacrosse/field hockey combination kid who approached 80 goals scored on the season and flashed for seven in a semifinal 11-10 win over Polytech.
Cape players joining their captain on the all-state first team team are midfielder Eddy Shoop (40 goals, 11 assists), a beast on the draw circle, and Annie Judge a defender noted for her relentless tenacity and super speed clearing the ball.
Second-team selections were Cailey Thornburg on attack (46 goals, 17 assists), who delivered her best games against elite competition; Jody Boyer, a sophomore first-year starter on defense whose major asset is speed; midfielder Tess Bernheimer (12 goals, six assists), a great two-way middle and former field hockey Player of the Year; and goalie Izzy Cryne, who brought her team to a state championship and 17-1 record by facing the best schedule in the state, which included wins over Maryland powers Queen Anne’s, Stephen Decatur and Worcester Prep.
Tower Hill also placed Kiva Walsh, attack; Sophie Peipher, defender; and goalie Ellie Wakefield on the first team.
Other first team selection were midfielders Ali McKay and Jamie Trabaudo and defender Kaitlin Bergold of Polytech, attacker Lauren Phillips and Midfield Olivia Duarte of Caravel, midfielder Jordan Wood and defender Caroline Grasso of Charter and attacker Brooke Schmeusser of Ursuline.
