Local brothers donate birthday gifts to Toys for Tots

October 3, 2021

Volunteers at Toys for Tots are always impressed by the generosity of their neighbors in Sussex County.

But occasionally, someone does something that is especially notable, demonstrating an extraordinary level of thoughtfulness. And when such an act is performed by a young person for the benefit of other children, it is even more noteworthy.

Nassau DE, the local campaign organization of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, recently witnessed such an act of unselfishness when 9-year-old Carson Figueroa and his younger brother Cason celebrated their joint birthday party. When asked by his parents Cynthia and Stan Figueroa how he wanted to celebrate his birthday, Carson decided he would like to donate all the gifts he received to Toys for Tots. He convinced Cason to join him in sharing their gifts with the other children of southern Delaware.

Carson told his parents he understood that not all kids had the things he did, and with his dad having served in the Marine Corps, he would like to donate his birthday presents to the Marines’ Toys for Tots campaign. His proud mom and dad agreed with Carson’s unselfish decision.

Cynthia reached out to Nassau DE Coordinator Jim DeMartino, who arranged for the family to receive Toys for Tots collection boxes, banners and wristbands. With Carson’s soccer team and his other friends getting into the spirit of things, more than a full box of toys was collected for this year’s campaign.

Nassau DE LCO volunteers offer their sincere thanks and great appreciation to Carson and Cason, and their parents Stan and Cynthia Figueroa for the example they have set. The family’s generosity will go a long way to ensure that all children in Sussex County have a merry Christmas.
