As more elementary schools in Sussex County establish Let Me Run teams, community partners are finding ways to support and encourage the boys who participate.

Let Me Run is a seven-week after-school running program for fourth- and fifth-grade boys. While experiencing the positive benefits running has on their health and fitness, participants also build relationships and develop leadership skills to use in their classrooms and communities. Their training efforts culminate in a 5K race at the end of the season.

This spring, local HVAC company Alltemp Air partnered with Rehoboth Beach Running Company to provide running shoes to more than 75 boys participating on Let Me Run teams at Georgetown, H.O. Brittingham, John M. Clayton, Lewes, Long Neck and Lord Baltimore elementary schools.

“They’re really comfortable, and I feel like I could run forever in them!” said Lukas Wengryn of the Lewes Elementary team. “I feel like they make people want to run a lot further,” said Jace Evans, a Lewes teammate.

Let Me Run teams from all six schools participated in the 5th DQ Dash for Fireworks that took off May 21 from Dairy Queen in Lewes.
