Local DAR chapter to host annual wreath-laying ceremony May 26 in Lewes

May 21, 2025

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Col. David Hall Chapter will host a Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony at 10 a.m., Monday, May 26, at Lewes Presbyterian Church to honor their namesake, as well as all service members who have perished in defense of this country. All are welcome to attend.

The event will include six lineage groups laying wreaths, presentation of colors by local JROTC cadets, and remarks by local and state officials.

The annual ceremony takes place at the gravesite of Lewes Revolutionary War hero Col. David Hall (1752-1817), who is buried in the Lewes Presbyterian Church cemetery. Hall led the Delaware Regiment in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown, where he was wounded. He was a successful lawyer, politician and judge who served as Delaware governor from 1802-05.

Lewes Presbyterian Church is at 133 Kings Hwy., Lewes. The ceremony will be canceled in case of heavy rain or other extreme weather. For more information, go to davidhalldar.org.
