Local fire departments receive pet oxygen mask donations

May 16, 2025

The PL Cares Animal Lovers Group, comprising resident volunteers of the Peninsula Lakes community in Millsboro, recently presented donations of pet oxygen mask kits to the fire departments in Millsboro and Lewes.

The donated mask kits were purchased through the Wag'N O2 Fur Life Program at petoxygenmasks.org. While firefighters attempt to get pets safely out of burning structures, they are not able to revive them unless they have the proper equipment, namely, pet oxygen masks. These specially designed animal masks can be used both on conscious pets that have suffered from smoke inhalation and pets that need to be resuscitated after losing consciousness from exposure to toxic fumes.

The PL Cares volunteer group is chaired by Debbie Dooley and Jane Heaton. Patty Halko coordinated the oxygen mask initiative.
