Lord Baltimore Lions donates to Sonshine Equine

March 19, 2023

At a recent meeting of the Lord Baltimore Lions Club, members were inspired as they learned about the important work conducted by staff members at the nonprofit Sonshine Equine Horsemanship and Therapeutic Riding Center in Millsboro.

Guest speaker Jan Baldt shared stories of how the chance to work with horses has brought about significant changes in the lives of children, teens and adults, encouraging and empowering them to develop present-time awareness, conflict resolution skills, patience and self-identity. The staff also impresses upon the students and adults the importance of having fun while learning.

Baldt, who has worked with horses and people for 23 years, said riding horses enables people to improve fine motor skills including balance and endurance, while also reducing stress and anxiety, and increasing emotional awareness.

At the conclusion of her talk, the Lord Baltimore Lions presented Baldt with a donation to the Sonshine Equine Center with funds budgeted through club activities and supplemented through a grant received from the Delaware Lions Foundation.
