A Louisiana man faces gun charges after Dewey Beach police stopped him March 26 in connection with spinning the tires of his Toyota Tundra.

Louis Cruz Ortiz, 22, was accelerating and spinning his tires at 1:19 a.m. while driving northbound on Route 1 near Saulsbury Street when police pulled him over, said officials.

Ortiz admitted to consuming alcohol and notified the officer there was a handgun in the vehicle, police said. Police found a fully loaded Taurus 9 mm handgun between the driver’s seat and the center console. During a search of vehicle police also found a loaded Remington Nylon 66.22-caliber semi-automatic rifle and an unloaded Benelli Super Black Eagle semi-automatic shotgun.

Police said Ortiz has no valid Delaware concealed carry deadly weapon permit. Several pieces of marijuana paraphernalia were also found in the vehicle. Ortiz was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and other drug and traffic offenses. He was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released on his own recognizance.
