Love Creek students celebrate World Kindness Day

Fourth-graders write letters to hospitalized kids, make dog toys

To celebrate World Kindness Day Nov. 13, Anna Nelson’s fourth-graders at Love Creek Elementary brainstormed ideas on how they could spread kindness.

“They decided they wanted to donate toys to animals and write letters to cheer up children,” Nelson said.

Students used strips of material cut from old T-shirts and socks to make dog toys they donated to Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown and wrote letters for Cards for Hospitalized Kids, an organization that distributes cards to hospitals across America.

After they finished their projects, Nelson said students said it felt good to see other people smile, be happy and feel special.

“This community project allowed them to experience the joy of giving to others,” Nelson said. “I couldn’t be more proud of their generous hearts and vision to make a difference in the world.”
