Lunch with a Purpose benefits Children’s Beach House

January 21, 2020

The January Lunch with a Purpose event was held Jan. 8 at the Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach. Over 275 attendees came to support Children’s Beach House, the local nonprofit chosen as this month’s beneficiary.

Lunch with a Purpose - Coastal Delaware is about meeting and making friends with the purpose of raising funds for local nonprofit organizations serving Sussex County.

From September through May, 200 to 275 women gather monthly to enjoy lunch and friendships while also raising much-needed funds for various nonprofit programs throughout the community. Each month a different charity is chosen as the beneficiary, and 100 percent of the funds raised through the luncheon raffle go directly to support the programs and services provided by that organization. Local merchants, civic groups and individuals generously donate goods and services to be raffled and are recognized as community supporters throughout the event. Attendees are also invited to bring in-kind goods that are needed by the nonprofit, as well as food donations for the Food Bank of Delaware.

“Children’s Beach House was proud to partner with Lunch with a Purpose on this month’s event. We are thankful for the many community supporters and generous donors who helped make our event such a success - raising over $7,000 for the very special kids and families we serve,” said Richard Garrett, executive director of Children’s Beach House.

The mission of Children’s Beach House is to help children with communicative disabilities and other special needs to be successful in life, and to help them reach their highest potential as contributing members of their families and communities.

Proceeds from this event support CBH programs serving at-risk children with communicative disabilities throughout Sussex County.  The CBH Youth Development Program provides young people (ages 7-18 years old) and their families with year-round case management, weekend enrichment programs and summer camping experiences. The Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center at CBH provides preschool and wrap-around services for early childhood learners (ages 3-4 years old) to help prepare them for success in kindergarten and beyond.
