Lunch With a Purpose supports survivors of domestic abuse
Lunch With a Purpose/Coastal Delaware held its November event at Heritage Shores in Bridgeville, hosted by What is Your Voice, an organization devoted to stopping the cycle of domestic abuse, and providing care and support to individuals and their children who have experienced domestic abuse.
Cheryl Mitchell, Lunch With a Purpose/Coastal Delaware director, welcomed the 168 lunch attendees and introduced Jacqueline Sterbach from What Is Your Voice. Sterbach spoke about her past experiences as a survivor of abuse and how they led her to begin her campaign against domestic abuse and to found What is Your Voice. She introduced her husband Walter Sterbach, a former Baltimore police officer who had firsthand experience with domestic abuse while on the job. Together, they share their passion for stopping domestic abuse, and providing aid and assistance to sufferers.
What is Your Voice has grown over the years and now provides counseling, temporary housing and other resources to victims. While addressing domestic violence, the organization is also dealing with other pressing conditions such as homelessness, poverty, substance abuse and human trafficking in Sussex County.
Funds raised at the luncheon totaled $7,400 with $2,485 in the form of in-kind donations. Food donations totaled 388 pounds. To learn more about the organization’s important work and upcoming events, go to whatisyourvoice.org.
Run Saniyah Run, an organization supporting special needs children and their parents, will be the beneficiary of the LWAP event Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Clubhouse at Baywood.
