Lutheran Church celebrates season with Long Neck community

December 21, 2014

Grace of God Lutheran Church held a community potluck dinner Dec. 7 to celebrate the holiday season. Eighty people enjoyed a meal together at the Long Neck CHEER Center, where the church worships. Grace of God is very involved in feeding the local community through various ministries, and they wanted to share a meal with those they usually serve.

Grace of God has a mobile grocery once a month, feeding almost 50 families in the community. They wanted to celebrate the advent season by sharing a meal together with those families as well as others. Members of the congregation provided dishes and food. There were eight tables filled with food, and all families got seconds as well as a to-go box full of leftovers.

“This was such a good opportunity to really sit down and get to know the families that we serve each month, especially during this time of year. Everyone was filled, and we will definitely be doing this again soon,” said the Rev. Kelly Pensinger, Grace of God pastor.

Grace of God Lutheran is an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregation. Members worship in the Long Neck CHEER center each Sunday at 10 a.m. The grocery club is set up the third Wednesday of each month at American Legion Post 28 on Route 24 east of Millsboro. Fifty families are able to get a box full of nonperishable items, fresh chicken, fresh produce, paper goods of their choosing, and bread and sweets. It is supported by donations from local business and Lutheran Community Services. Visit goglc.org or Facebook for information.
