Major change to Sweetbriar Road blinking lights

July 22, 2025

The blinking lights to alert drivers of bikers and walkers crossing Sweetbriar Road near Lewes no longer work. You now have to push the button to activate the lights to stop traffic. I have repeatedly called DelDOT about this. The lights have been out for almost four weeks. I was only told recently that DelDOT decided you need to activate the sensor button. I have seen bikers, walkers and traffic not stop when they approach that intersection. Visibility is limited with the full-grown corn and trees in full bloom. I was told there is nothing more that can be done, but to pass this issue on to DelDOT’s community relations. How is a biker supposed to stop and press the button? I think DelDOT should advertise this before it makes a change like this. Lives are at stake!
