July 17, 2025

A Selbyville man faces his sixth driving under the influence and other charges after police say he ran off the roadway July 15 in Lincoln.

Delaware State Police responded about 2 p.m. to Morgan Drive in connection with a welfare check and found a silver Lexus RX350 in the median strip. Police said the man appeared to be having a medical emergency, but he showed signs of impairment and was taken to an area hospital by ambulance. Luis Rodriguez, 65, was given field sobriety tests at the hospital, police said, and was found to be driving under the influence. A computer check showed that Rodriguez had five prior DUI-related convictions, police said.

Before his Lexus was towed, police said, troopers found about 0.06 grams of heroin inside the vehicle.

Rodriguez was taken to Troop 7 where he was charged with felony sixth-offense DUI, possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance except human growth hormone without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a valid license, and failure to remain in a single lane. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $8,202 secured bond.
