Margaret D. Santmyer, active in community

November 24, 2021

Margaret D. Santmyer, 96, of Middleburg, Va., passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, at her home.  She was born June 6, 1925, in Latrobe, Pa., daughter of the late John R. and Hannah Champ.

Marge grew up in Irwin, Pa., where she met the love of her life, Roy.  After creating a home in Southern Maryland, Marge and Roy retired to Delaware where they enjoyed family, travel and volunteering at Beebe Hospital into their late 80s.  They were active participants at the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 and the Cape Henlopen Senior Center.  In 2018, Marge and Roy relocated to Middleburg to be closer to family. Marge was an avid bingo player, excellent baker, competitive card player, and creator of a wide variety of beautiful handcrafts.  She spent many joyful hours playing games, and sharing love and life lessons with her adored grandchildren. She was well known for her feisty sense of humor, and she will be greatly missed by family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 74 years, Roy Santmyer, just two weeks previously.  She is survived by her children: Sally Gammon, Tom Santmyer (Debbie), Kevin Santmyer (Sally), and Steve Santmyer (Margaret Ann); her grandchildren: Sarah, Bradley, Jennifer, Nicholas, Emily, Jonathan and Haley; and her great-grandchildren: Hayden, Andrew, Brennan, Noah, Kyleigh, Eli and Sterling.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mary Mother of Peace Church, in Millsboro at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
