Margaret "Peg" Belt, devoted to family
Margaret "Peg" Belt, 84, of Lewes, passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. She was born Wednesday, Aug. 2, 1933, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Fritz and Anna (Ogle) Petroll.
Peg graduated from Kennett High School and started her employment with the DuPont Company. Later, she was employed by Newark High School, after which she left to assist with the opening of the Independence School near Newark.
Peg enjoyed traveling, which covered 45 states. She loved working in her gardens, flower beds and was frequently seen mowing her lawn on her John Deere. Her kitchen was always busy and many will remember her delicious cookies, pies and cakes, especially at Christmas and get-well times.
Tennis and pickleball were among her favorite activities, and she was known to be quite competitive at times. Above all, her strongest love was for her family, her friends and her church. Peg was a caring and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and dear friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Peg was preceded in death by her son, Dean C. Belt Jr.; her brother, William Fredrick Petroll; and her sisters: Ann P. Crowe Gonser and Elsie Petroll Johnson. She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Dean C. Belt; her brothers: Fritz "Pete" Petroll Jr. and his wife Pat, and Walter O. Petroll and his wife Barbara; her sister, Bertha Bowman and her husband Bradford; her nieces and nephews: Bradford Bowman, Andrew Bowman John Johnson, Jay Johnson, Amy Petroll O'Malley, Matthew Petroll, John Crowe, Lisa Crowe Salzano, Peter Petroll, Paul Petroll, and Philip Petroll ; and her great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 8, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lewes. Burial will follow the service at 2 p.m., at Longwood Cemetery, 945 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, Pa. Friends may call between 6 and 8 p.m.,Thursday, Sept. 7, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway; Lewes.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Beebe Healthcare, the emergency facility, the Tunnell Cancer Center, and Cadbury Rehab for their outstanding service, support, and compassion.
