Margery Ann Kinnikin, enjoyed visiting family

June 25, 2025

Margery Ann Murray Kinnikin, 93, of York, Pa., passed away the morning of Monday, June 23, 2025.

Margery was born Oct. 5, 1931, at the family home on Barksdale Road in Newark. She was the daughter of George Wilson Murray and Gertrude Fader Murray, and the youngest of five siblings. As a child, she helped on the family farm and at her grandfather Gottleib Fader’s bakery (now known as Bing’s Bakery). She and her best friend, Margery Dann Fouracre, enjoyed riding their horses around Newark together.

Margery graduated from Newark High School and attended the University of Delaware for two years. She unfortunately had to leave UD before graduating due to the death of her father. However, she valued education and actively learned through her travels around the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. She married John W. Kinnikin at First Presbyterian Church in Newark (now UD’s Trabant University Center) in 1965. Margery was very involved in a Bible study group for many of the years she lived in York.

She also had a deep appreciation for plants and never saw a house plant she didn’t want to nurture. In fact, Margery had a whole room in her home filled with many different plants. Among her greatest prides were her four grandchildren. She loved them all deeply and would travel frequently to Delaware to attend dance recitals, sporting events and birthday dinners, or just to simply come and spend time with them.

In addition to her parents, Margery was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Kinnikin; her siblings and their spouses, Dorothy Burris (Vernon), Mary Murray, George W. Murray Jr. (Pauline), and Janet Ivans (Richard); and her nephews, George Murray III and Eugene Scott. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Parsons (H.D.); her four grandchildren, Brinleigh Parsons, Mackie Parsons (Holly), Parron Parsons and Keara Parsons; her nephew, David Murray and his family; the family of her nephew George Murray III; her nephew, Richard Ivans; and her live-in companion, Charlotte McNamara.

A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, July 7, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark. Interment will follow in Head of Christiana Cemetery, 1104 West Church Road, Newark.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margery’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org); or to Nemours Children’s Health, Shands House, 1600 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 (nemours.org).
