Mary Hesford, served in RAF

Mary Hesford, 93, of Odenton, Md., died Thursday, July 23, 2015, at home with family by her side.

Born in Kent, England Oct. 12, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George and Edith Fisher. Mary served five years in the RAF during World War II in England and Belgium. She married Col. Douglas Hesford April 25, 1945, in Belgium. They were married for 60 years until his death in 2005.

Mary loved music and was active in sports most of her life. She lived in five countries and kept in constant touch with friends all over the world. While living in Japan, she taught English conversation in a high school as well as various universities and companies.

She was preceded in death by her brother Crispin and her sister Esther who lived in England.

Survivors include three sons from Maryland, Crispin, Tim and Jeremy; and daughter Jackie who lives in Arizona. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Heather, Ian, Timothy and Michael.

Mary will be inurned next to her late husband at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
