Melvin Purnell Biles, straight shooter

Melvin Purnell Biles, 47, the son of the late Mary Elizabeth Biles Sturdivant, was born in Baltimore, Md., Sept. 24, 1974.  Melvin transitioned from this life Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, in his home in Wilmington.

Melvin earned his high school diploma from Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes in 1993.  He attended two years of college at Delaware State University under the major of criminal justice. Throughout Melvin's work history, he worked in behavioral healthcare and community service in different capacities. 

In youth and adulthood, Melvin was an avid lover of playing and watching basketball and football.  Melvin was a Dallas Cowboys football fan.  He had no problem sharing with anyone at any time his commitment to the Cowboys team.  

Melvin was a straight shooter, funny, caring, and could carry a conversation with anyone.  Melvin was a wonderful, loving, supportive, active and dedicated father to his two sons Shannon and Skyy Biles.  He also was a loving uncle to his nephews, Boyce and Bryce Biles. 

Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Biles Sturdivant, and brother Lando Biles.  

Melvin is survived by his partner of 28 years and the mother of his sons, Carprice Judd of Wilmington; and his sons Shannon Biles and Skyy Biles of Wilmington; nephews Boyce Biles Jr. and Bryce Biles of Lewes; two aunts, Doris C. Biles of Ellendale and Lessie M. Rasheed of Milton; and uncle Sandy Biles (Rosa) of Augusta, Ga.; in addition to a host of cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, at noon, with a viewing one hour prior, at Friendship Baptist Church in Lewes.
