Georgetown woman faces charges after fleeing police, jumping into Rehoboth Bay
A Georgetown woman faces charges Jan. 26 after leading police on a chase in Long Neck before jumping into Rehoboth Bay in an attempt to escape.
A member of the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force saw a Ford F-150 about 4 p.m. traveling eastbound on Route 24 near Bay Farm Road when the Ford almost collided with another vehicle at the intersection.
The Ford turned onto Bay Farm Road, and the detective tried to pull it over, police said, but the driver continued at a low rate of speed along several area streets and roads. Police said a female passenger tried to jump out but was unable to do so, then eventually jumped out on Sloan Road, suffering a minor injury. The F-150 ultimately came to a stop in the Pinewater Farm community after striking a fence and a tree, and the driver, Lindsey Moncavage, 40, ran from the truck. She then jumped into the Rehoboth Bay, police said, and a pursuing trooper jumped into the bay, apprehended her, and pulled her to safety. Moncavage was taken into custody without further incident. A computer check showed that Moncavage’s driver’s license was revoked, and she was wanted for violation of probation. During a search of the F-150, troopers found drug paraphernalia.
Moncavage was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, and after being released, she was taken to Troop 4. She was charged with first-degree unlawful imprisonment, disregarding a police officer’s signal, resisting arrest, and other drug and traffic offenses. She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $5,504 secured bond.
