December 7, 2023

A Bridgeville man and an Ellendale man face drug and weapon charges following a Dec. 5 traffic stop in Millsboro.

The Sussex County Governor’s Task Force was carrying out proactive patrols in Millsboro about 4 p.m. when they spotted a silver Nissan Altima that failed to stop at a stop sign located at the intersection of Dupont Boulevard and W. Monroe Street, police said. Troopers pulled over the vehicle and approached the driver, Jervis Cox, 30, of Bridgeville and the passenger, Devantay Clanton, 24, of Ellendale. While conversing with Cox, police said, the trooper noticed the handle of a black handgun sticking out of Cox’s jacket pocket. Police said they asked Cox and Clanton to exit the vehicle, and they were taken into custody without incident.

While searching the vehicle and suspects, police said they found over $1,000 in suspected drug proceeds, a 9mm handgun, about 37.93 grams of crack cocaine, about 102.84 grams of cocaine, and 117 bags of heroin (.819 grams). Cox and Clanton were transported to Troop 4 and charged with drug and weapon charges.

Both men were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of cash bond - Cox on a $169,050, and Clanton on $23,500.
