Meyer seeks to protect COVID-19 shots

September 18, 2025

Gov. Matt Meyer and the Delaware Division of Public Health recently issued a standing order on COVID-19 vaccine eligibility, and are calling on the Board of Pharmacy to convene an emergency meeting to protect vaccine access.

“With this standing order and our partnership with neighboring states, we are taking control of our future, ensuring that every Delawarean has access to the protection they need,” said Meyer in a press release.

The standing order includes the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics that all children, even those 6 to 23 months old, should be vaccinated even if they are not at high risk for severe COVID-19.

The recommendation is at odds with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which no longer recommends routine COVID vaccination for healthy children.

Meyer called on the Board of Pharmacy to convene an emergency meeting to affirm this standing order. The order aligns with the Department of Insurance’s recent assurances that most carriers will maintain their existing vaccine coverage levels, officials said.

Meyer said he is also directing DPH and the Department of Education to revise state regulations to ensure that changes to federal guidance do not negatively impact the health and safety of Delaware students.
