Michael J. Cunnane, veteran, true outdoorsman
Michael J. Cunnane, 78, of Millsboro, formerly of Bucks County, Pa., passed away peacefully Friday, June 6, 2025, at Delaware Bay Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Georgetown.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., March 10, 1947, Mike was the son of the late James and Winnifred (Blastic) Cunnane. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Mike retired from Bell Atlantic/Verizon after a long and dedicated career, beginning as a lineman and later serving in management and consulting roles. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—spending time with his family and being on or near the water.
A true outdoorsman, Mike loved boating, fishing, crabbing, and hunting. He also had a passion for fast cars and classic automobiles, enjoyed attending car shows, and could often be found riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. A lifelong and devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan, Mike rarely missed a Sunday game. One of his proudest moments was watching the Eagles win the Super Bowl LIX championship.
Mike is survived by his two daughters, Christine Cunnane and Dawn Cunnane; his grandson, Christian Houser; his great-grandson, Maximus Houser; his brother, Jeff Cunnane; and his sister, Pam Koren.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, June 20, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where a celebration of Mike’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike’s memory can be made to the American Heart Association, heart.org/en.
