Mikel ‘Mikie’ Ida Lewis, interior designer

Mikel “Mikie” Ida Lewis, 77, of Rehoboth Beach passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday Jan. 22. 2021, after a short battle with COVID pneumonia. She was born July 25, 1943, in Detroit Mich., daughter of the late Wentworth Eugene (Budd) and Irene Frances (Cox) Beeman.

Mikie attended The Ray Vogue School of Design in Chicago (now the Illinois School of Art) and her classmates were to be her lifelong friends. She had a flair for interior design and decorated her homes beautifully. Mikie had a quick and sassy wit, a great smile, and lit up any room she entered. She was known for her generous heart and was always the first to lend a hand. She will be sorely missed by all her friends and family.

In addition to her parents, Mikie was preceded in death by her first husband, Peter Hunt Seaton; and her brother, Dr. Peter Wentworth Beeman.  She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Henry "Hank" Lewis of Rehoboth Beach;  her son, James Hobson Lewis of Wichita, Kan.; her stepchildren: Tammy and Danny Hicks of Hemlock, Ind., and Doug and Carol Sears of Windfall, Ind.; her grandchildren: Colten Lewis of Wichita, Jacqueline Elaine Lewis of Eugene, Ore., Sgt. Gage Lewis (Emalee) of Japan, Jacey Doshier (Jeff) of Wichita, Josh Hicks and Katrina Hicks, both of Hemlock, Ashley and Chris McCool, Brandi and Cory Buckner, and Jessica Sears, all of Windfall; her great-grandchildren: Violet James Lewis of Eugene, Everlee Lewis of Japan, Levi Doshier and Eden Elizabeth Doshier, both of Wichita; her nephew, Sean Beeman (Kassy) of Salem, Ore.; her nieces: Erin Beeman of Navato, Calif., and Liz Seaton and family of Takoma Park, Md.; and her sisters-in-law:  Phyllis Parsons (RJ) of Rochester, N.Y., and Sue Robinson (Rodney) of Lewes.

Services will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to honor Mikie's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38015, or www.stjude.org.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
