To mark 11 decades in business, i.g. Burton & Company Inc. recently held its 110th anniversary celebration event in Milford to commemorate the opening of i.g. Burton in 1908.
Several hundred people attended including dignitaries Mayor Archie Campbell, retiring Sen. Gary Simpson, R-Milford; Rep. Bobby Outten, R-Harrington; Rep. Harvey Kenton, R-Milford; and Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long.
“I was very honored to see so many of our best and long-term customers come out to the celebration,” said owner Charlie Burton. “It is because of these customers, our friends, and our many employees over the years that we have reached this milestone. This was not only a celebration of our 110th anniversary, but really a big thank you to everyone who has ever played a role in making it possible. We have a lot to be thankful for, and we are.”
Ten years ago, the National Automobile Dealers Association recognized i.g. Burton with the Century Award. It is given to businesses that have been in the retail transportation business for at least 100 continuous years.
“It all started in our family’s general store, which at the time was located in Millsboro. What a different world it was back then. There was no such thing as a car dealership! The general store sold everything, including the automobile,” said Burton.
I.g. Burton and Company Inc. currently has locations in Milford, Seaford, Lewes, and Smyrna, and Berlin, Md. It offers new vehicles from Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, Promaster, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Sprinter, and Blue Bird Bus, and pre-owned vehicles.
