Milford writer garners accolades

May 23, 2024

Author Morgan Golladay of Milford was honored at the 2024 Delaware Press Association’s Communication Awards reception May 1.

Golladay placed both first and second in the short story competition. As first-place honoree, “Under the Rhododendrons” will advance to the national level. “Second Christmas,” with illustrations also by Golladay, captured second place. Golladay also received an honorable mention for her poem “March Wind.”

"As an elder writer, I'm especially pleased to have been recognized by the Delaware Press Association for both my short stories and poetry. It demonstrates that we are never too old to begin new careers,” she said.

Golladay’s debut poetry collection, “The Song of North Mountain,” a 96-page softcover, was recently published by Old Scratch Press. Golladay illustrated the book’s striking cover and interior artwork. She said the book is a love song to a 55-mile-long mountain ridge that abuts the western side of the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

She said, “Softened by time and weather, North Mountain was an anchor in my childhood, holding its presence patiently through weather, fire and human intervention. Its timeless message of acceptance and attention have been supports in my life and work."
