Milton 8-10 all-stars advance to Mid-Atlantic Championship
The Milton 8-10 all-stars advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Championship of the East Regional in Cranston, R.I., following a nail-bitting 3-2 win over New York Aug. 7.
Milton avenged a tournament-opening loss to the squad from Twin Town Little League by using late-game heroics to move two wins away from a regional title.
New York, unbeaten in the tournament prior to the game, got on the scoreboard first, scoring its only two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning.
The score remained 2-0 until the top of the fifth inning. After a walk and two quick outs to open the inning, Roman Schlezes doubled to center field to score Jacob Reynolds. The very next batter, Michael Sockriter, hit a hard grounder to right field, resulting in a game-tying RBI double.
Henry Hill singled to open the sixth inning. Jaxon Kulp’s sacrifice bunt moved Hill into scoring position, then Krew Johnson singled to put runners on first and third with just one out. Bryce DeLacy stepped up to the plate and connected for an RBI single to score the game-winning run.
Johnson set the New Yorkers down in order, including a game-sealing strikeout, to secure the win.
Johnson pitched a complete game for Milton, striking out seven batters and walking just one. At the plate, he was 2-for-2.
Also going 2-for-2 was Kulp. Other Milton batters recording hits were Hill, DeLacy, Schlezes and Sockriter.
Milton will face Lehigh Little League of Pennsylvania at 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8.
