The weather was hot July 22, and so were the Milton bats, as the 8-10 all-stars defeated MOT 5-1 at Kiwanis Field in Seaford in the first round of the state tournament.

Milton outhit the District 1 squad 8-1 to move on to play the winner of District 2’s Pike Creek and MOT Thursday, July 24.

Milton’s Jaxon Kulp went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Henry Hill delivered a 2-for-3 performance. Jase DeLacy. and Wyatt Dean each went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Michael Sockriter went 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI and Roman Schlezes pounded an RBI.

Milton pitcher Krew Johnson toed the rubber four innings, striking out six batters and allowing only one hit. Kulp came in from the bullpen and sat down three batters via the strikeout.

Milton got on the board first when Schlezes was walked with the bases loaded in the second. MOT tied the game on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the inning. The MOT bats were cooled by Johnson, and the Milton crew kept the bats hot, scoring two each in the third and fifth innings.

“My fastball was working tonight,” said Johnson. “My defense played great behind me. Without them I couldn't have done this. Sometimes I have to take a deep breath and bear down and throw hard and let my defense do their job.”

“It felt good tonight,” said Hill. “We get pumped in the field when Krew pitches. We’re looking forward to the next game.”

“The boys were patient at the plate,” said manager Bob DeLacy. “They waited and took advantage of some great opportunities. [MOT] didn’t make too many errors, but the one they did we jumped on it. We told Krew all year to throw strikes and the defense is good behind you, and they showed it tonight. Our catcher, Bryce DeLacy, and Krew work great together.”
