Milton 8-10 Pat Knight team wins championship

Huk O’Brien connected for a walk-off single in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Milton 8-10 Pat Knight baseball team to a 9-8 win over Woodbridge in the District 3 Pat Knight Championship Aug. 1 at Lower Sussex Little League in Roxana. 

Milton outhit Woodbridge 11-6. 

Woodbridge scored first in the top of the first, but Milton came back to tie the game in the second. The Milton bats came alive in the third, when they built a five-run lead.

Woodbridge scored three in the fourth inning and added two in the fifth to tie the game at 6-6.

Milton added two in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 8-6. Woodbridge tied the game again at 8-8 in the top of the sixth.

Then O’Brien stepped into the batter’s box in the bottom of the sixth. He singled to score the game-winning run and set off an on-field celebration. 

Landon Reber went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Mason Pisapia has collected two RBIs. Dylan White and Josh Brittingham each had an RBI. Asher Johnson had two hits. Ike Underwood and Rowen Duncan each had a hit in the game.

“I’m proud of these boys for coming together to represent Milton,” said manager Travis White. “They made the plays when they needed to and never gave up. Hats off to Woodbridge, as the championship was everything you would want in a game. I’m glad we came out on top and know the boys had a blast.”

Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
