Milton celebrates horseshoe crabs May 25

May 22, 2019

What is prehistoric, loves Delaware beaches, and has blue blood? It’s not Queen Elizabeth ... it’s the noble horseshoe crab! Milton’s Chamber of Commerce partners with Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge to present the Horseshoe Crab and Shorebird Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 25, with volunteer help from the Milton Historical Society.

This free, family-friendly festival celebrates horseshoe crabs, shorebirds, and other natural resources while encouraging citizen awareness and participation in wildlife-dependent recreation. Activities occur at Milton Municipal Park and Prime Hook NWR; each site will offer choices from art to science and nature education. Milton Municipal Park will have exhibits from environmental organizations along with vendors, crafts, food, and entertainment.

Prime Hook NWR will allow visitors to get outside and connect with nature via hikes, a kayak trip, videos, and a horseshoe crab touch tank. A free bus will transport visitors back and forth between the two locations. Visitors can park in downtown Milton where parking is always free! Attendees can also visit the new exhibits at the Milton Historical Society and Milton Arts Guild, and stay to dine at one of Milton’s award-winning restaurants.

Come to Milton this Saturday for this free event, and find out why only horseshoe crabs truly have blue blood, and what makes their blood so special! Go to www.historicmilton.com/event/horseshoe-crab-shorebird-festival/ for details.
