Milton committee announces new park exhibition

December 5, 2023

Editor’s note - The exhibit opening has been postponed from its original date of Dec. 10 to Dec. 17 according to a notice issued Dec. 8 by the Milton Economic Development Commission.

The Milton Economic Development Committee has announced its newest public art display in Mill Park: a holiday tree project with decorations created by local students.

Town council approved the display Nov. 6 in a unanimous vote.

Barry Goodinson, the committee chair, said the trees for the project are already on site. Goodinson said the exhibit will open at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 17. The students will decorate the trees at that time, then there will be music and hot chocolate, he said. The decorations will be on display until Saturday, Jan. 6.

The trees were paid for through a donation by I.G. Burton, Goodinson said. He said the trees are balled and burlapped and will be relocated to the Rails to Trails after the exhibit closes.

This will be the fourth public art display in Mill Park over the past year. The first was a selection of wood sculptures from Lewes-based artist Roy Fitzgerald, followed by a murals project from 12 artists known as “Greetings.” When that display ended, the murals were relocated to various points around town. The most recent exhibition was a selection of faux bois furniture created by Milton artist Allen Sangree.
