Milton Community Foundation donates to H.O. Brittingham school

September 26, 2022

The Milton Community Foundation recently provided a $2,500 donation to H.O. Brittingham Elementary School, and on Sept. 20 members of the foundation were able to see firsthand the impact their donation will have on students.

“With this generous donation from Milton Community Foundation, we were able to purchase 250 copies of ‘The 7 Habits of Happy Kids’ book by Sean Covey,” said Kyle Bentley, H.O. Brittingham school principal. “Each student in kindergarten through second grade will be given a book today to take home to share with their family.”

About five years ago, H.O. Brittingham Elementary School implemented the Leader in Me Program. The program follows the seven habits, providing a unique approach to integrating highly effective practices throughout the school. It teaches students about leadership, creates a culture of empowerment and aligns to students’ academic goals.

“Our Leader in Me program is the pillar of our school,”said Bentley. “It was important for us to share the program with our students’ families, connecting home with what they are experiencing each day in the classroom. When the Milton Community Foundation reached out to us asking how they could help our school, we took the opportunity to purchase and provide the book to the families of our youngest leaders in order to help make that connection.”

The H.O. Brittingham Elementary Leader in Me Program has been so successful over the last few years that the school was awarded Lighthouse Status by program officials this past May. This highly regarded standard is awarded by Franklin Covey to schools that have proven to be models of leadership. H.O. Brittingham is one of only four schools in Delaware to have attained Lighthouse Status.
