A $425,000 water main project in Milton officially wrapped up Aug. 13.
Contractor Zack Excavating of Smyrna completed work on a water main extension that created a loop serving Wagamon’s West Shores.
The new water main connection was built from Federal Street to near Lavinia Street, installing 1,600 linear feet of 10-inch pipe. The loop is intended to improve water flow throughout the town and prevent service interruptions in the Wagamon’s development should there be a break.
Zack’s bid was $425,000, higher than the anticipated $395,000, but close enough that town officials decided to move forward. The remaining $53,000 was made up from funds in the town treasury. Voters approved a $395,000 loan at 2 percent interest from the state Water Infrastructure Advisory Council at a July referendum.
Combined with the $500,000 well and treatment project at Shipbuilder’s Village, the water main project was approved by a 493-38 vote. RYAN MAVITY PHOTO
