Milton council to debate Scarlet Oaks commercial annexation
Milton Town Council will debate a request for annexation of 5 acres at the corner of Harbeson and Shingle Point roads that is planned for a commercial component adjacent to the planned Scarlet Oaks development.
At council’s Monday, March 2 meeting, council is expected to forward the request by Scarlet Oaks Holdings LLC to the planning and zoning commission to weigh in on the planned zoning for the parcel, which the developer has requested be C-1 commercial.
On Jan. 29, the town’s special review committee recommended approval of the application, but with the caveat that deed restrictions are negotiated to prevent certain uses normally permitted within the C-1 zoning.
The concept for the proposed development is for a building called The Barn, which will have a restaurant, beer garden and outdoor seating, as well as an outdoor space that will have multiple uses, such as a farmers market or entertainment venue, and a spot for bicycle rentals. Cottages will be on site to serve as office space, and there will also be a larger homestead on site. The restaurant would be developed by Megan Kee, creator of Houston White Company, among other restaurants in Rehoboth Beach and Lewes.
Besides the Scarlet Oaks commercial annexation, council will also continue discussions on potential council districts and discuss a request from Milton Theatre to have a food truck parked on Union Street during summer concert days at the Quayside Stage.
