Milton council members take their seats

April 7, 2023

Milton Town Council held its organizational meeting April 3 to swear in two council members, elect new officers and announce the annual Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Volunteer award winners.

Council members Scotty Edler and Randi Meredith took their seats for new three-year terms, Edler’s first and Meredith’s second. Both were unopposed after being the only two people to file. Incumbent Rich Baty declined to seek another term.

For his service, Baty was given a plaque by Mayor John Collier. Baty thanked the citizens of Milton for allowing him to serve. Baty chose to not run, in large part, due to health issues that have left him needing a walker to get around.

For officers this year, Councilwoman Lee Revis-Plank was named vice mayor, while Edler was named secretary and Councilman Larry Savage was named treasurer.

Also approved were a number of committee assignments, including Jenny Hudson to the board of adjustment, Suzanne Fox and William Post to the historic preservation commission, Edler as chair of the parks and recreation commission, and Richard Trask and Andrew Gogates to the planning and zoning commission.

Lastly, the council presented the annual Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Volunteer awards. The latter was given to Rep. Stell Parker Selby, D-Milton, for her years of community service, while the former was given to Mary Ann Warrington, head of the Milton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and founder of the Broadkill Farmers Market.
