Milton Farmers Market to host Oktoberfest Oct. 2 at Dogfish Head

Friendly dogs on short leashes welcome
September 29, 2015

The Milton Farmers Market will host its annual Oktoberfest at the Dogfish Head Brewery from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2. This celebration of fall features Dogfish Head brew on tap, lots of scrumptious prepared foods, plus over 20 sellers’ tents, and live and lively music from Saltwater String Band.

At this event, Kettle Korn representatives will bring bags of their delicious product to the market, as well as the huge kettle itself, and prepare their treats on site. Other local sellers will be on hand with seasonal vegetables and fruits including hydroponic lettuces and heirloom veggies, farm-fresh eggs, hormone-free all-natural meats and poultry, just-from-the-oven pastries, pies and artisan breads, wild-caught seafood, bottled milk and just-churned ice cream from Rehoboth Dairy, delectable homemade jams and jellies, plus specialty items from Lavender Fields, Heather Scents’ handmade soaps and other products from local artisans. This last weekly market of the season in Milton provides a great opportunity for patrons to stock up, fill the pantry and load the freezer for the winter months to come.

Market visitors will notice several vendors giving notice that their products will be available for pre-order at this year’s new Harvest Market, debuting in November. Fresh turkeys will be available from TA Farms, and smoked turkeys will be available from Rustic Acres. All vendors on site will be happy to assist in holiday meal planning with fresh and wholesome selections for the Thanksgiving table.

The traditional beverage at Oktoberfest is Dogfish Head's Pumpkin Ale, on tap for market patrons to enjoy as they browse the sellers’ tents, taste the samples and chat with the sellers. Abbott’s Grill and Po’ Boys Creole and Fresh Catch will have a selection of delicious meals on the grill or on the burners to enjoy on site at the picnic tables or to take home.

Saltwater String Band returns to Oktoberfest with its high-energy brand of bluegrass, rock, and reggae. This band based in Ocean City, Md., blends the sounds of the Eastern Shore’s tidal waters with their own regional style. Attendees can grab a snack or a beverage and enjoy the music at the shaded tables in front of the performance area.

Free parking is available in the adjoining Dogfish Head Brewery parking lot or on the street. As always, friendly dogs on short leashes are welcome.
