Milton Fire Department honors contest winners

May 8, 2021

The Milton Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary recognized the 2020 fire prevention poster and essay contest winners March 28.

The Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association sponsors the contest each year, and even with COVID-19 restrictions in place, was still able to host the contest for both in-person and remote-learning students.

“Despite COVID-19 making it harder to reach out to local students, there were still many wonderful posters and essays that were submitted to us! Thank you to everyone who participated,” said Mary Ann Warrington, president of the Milton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Students in kindergarten through grade 3 entered the poster contest, while students in grades 4-8 entered the essay contest.

Cape’s Milton schools had several winners recognized at the county awards program held March 28. Two Mariner Middle School students who wrote essays went on to place third at the county level after taking first place locally.
