Advance reservations are required
June 16, 2012

The Milton Historical Society and Dogfish Head Brewery will jointly sponsor summer walking and brewery tours in Milton on select Saturdays through September. The walking tours are a great way to learn about the town’s rich historic heritage and its modern reinvention as home of the Dogfish Head Brewery.

The two-hour tours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, June 30, July 21, Aug. 18 and Sept. 15, leaving from Dogfish Head Brewery. Space is limited and advance reservations are required.

Known as Head of Broadkill, the town of Milton enjoys a rich heritage, with 198 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The walking tour will explore the town’s numerous architectural styles and the ship captains and seafaring men who once called Milton home. The historical background of the King Cole Cannery, present location of Dogfish Head Brewery, will be discussed.

The final hour of the tour provides a behind-the-scenes tour of the brewery including the brew house, cellars and packaging hall.  The highlight of the tour is the chance to sample Dogfish beers and shop for merchandise.

Tours last approximately two hours (10-10:45 a.m. walking outdoors and 11 a.m. brewery tour) and cover a little over a mile. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required, and hats and plenty of sunblock are recommended. Identification is required for tasting.

Dogfish Head Brewery is at 6 Village Center Blvd. in Milton.

Reservations are free for MHS members and $5 for nonmembers.  Email info@historicmilton.org or call 302-684-1010.
