Milton Major All-Stars defeat Woodbridge, fall to Georgetown

Broadkill boys battle back after losing first game

The Milton Major League All-Stars chopped down Woodbridge 11-3 in the July 17 quarterfinals of the District 3 tournament before falling 7-2 to Georgetown July 18 in Lewes.

The Milton boys of summer outhit the Woodbridge squad 13-4. Kasen Adams slammed a double, and he and Trig Joseph went 3-for-3 and 3-for-4, respectively, each picking up an RBI. Andrew Ockels went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Colton Wall went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Jude Bastian knocked in a run. Chase Madden, Ty Tillinghast and Noah Smith each delivered a hit. Nate Kristounas and Mason Conran both delivered support with great plays in the field.

Milton jumped out quickly scoring two in the first, and continued to hit, scoring one in the third, then four in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Madden toed the mound for five innings, striking out seven batters and allowing just one earned run. Ockels came in from the bullpen to shut down Woodbridge in the sixth.

Liam Countryman and Oliver Swartzentruber led Woodbridge with an RBI each. Countryman went yard in the first.

One night later, the Milton team’s season came to an end with an exciting 7-2 loss to Georgetown.

Joseph started on the mound, throwing 4.1 innings, striking out three Georgetown hitters. Relief pitcher Wall threw 1.1 innings, striking out three. Ockels came in to get a fly ball to end the top of the sixth.

Madden, Ockels, Tillinghast and Smith each got a hit, with Smith garnering an RBI.

Georgetown’s John Klosiewicz, Mason Eikenberry, Braydon Farrington and Lennon Kelly each had an RBI.

Eikenberry threw four innings for the visitors, striking out seven. Carter LeCates and James Klosiewicz finished the game for Georgetown.

“This Milton team showed a lot of toughness after losing the first game,” said manager Stu Madden. “They really gained confidence and belief in each other through the three win-or-go-home wins we had. The support from the community was awesome, and I had a blast getting to coach these boys. I hope they had as much fun as the coaches did.”
