The Milton Planning and Zoning Commission is set to conduct a site-plan review of the Milton Theatre’s proposed new addition, which will include an education wing with classrooms, additional artist spaces, new bathrooms and a reconfigured bar area.
The commission will discuss the plans at its regular meeting set for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Cannery Village clubhouse.
Besides the new space for artists and patrons, the addition will also have a private outdoor patio and roof deck, parking, and new loading and storage areas. The $3 million project is expected to be completed in spring 2026.
The educational wing, which adds new studio spaces and will allow the theater to serve more kids during its popular summer camps, is part of Phase 2 of a massive renovation project at the theater. The first phase was reconstructing a balcony, a project that was completed in April 2023. The new addition will add a second staircase to access the balcony, allowing the theater to sell more seats up there. Currently, the theater has only been selling a maximum of 49 seats for the balcony. The new staircase will allow for a capacity of 114.
The theater previously received approval for the project from the historic preservation commission in May.
Dunkin site plans
The commission will also hold a vote on final approval for the site plans of Dunkin Donuts.
The proposed Dunkin franchise would be located on Route 16 in front of the Cypress Grove development. The 2,860-square-foot restaurant would feature a drive-thru and 38 parking spaces. The commercially zoned parcel would be accessed from Route 16, with motorists turning onto Grove Circle, which services the interior lots of the development.
The Cypress Grove parcel was annexed into Milton in December 2020. Plans for the 26-acre parcel called for 21 acres of 240 residential units in an R-2 residential zoning district and 5 acres of commercial space fronting Route 16. The commercial space has been divided up into four lots, with the western parcels to comprise Dunkin and Dairy Queen. The eastern parcel is planned for a dentist's office and a future commercial business.
