MLK Celebration Organization thanks supporters

February 27, 2023

On behalf of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Organization of Sussex County, we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who helped make the 35th annual Commemorative Weekend Celebration a success!

Together as a community, we honored and paid tribute to the life and legacy of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Our theme this year, "Let justice roll down like water," reminded us of the ongoing struggle for racial justice in so many areas of our lives.

We were so happy to once again hold our annual banquet after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Our thanks to the CHEER Center for its support! We want to recognize the contributions of Peter Carter, our keynote speaker; Bryan Clark for providing music throughout the evening; and one of our founders, the Rev. Dr. William T. Wallace, who served as master of ceremonies.

Our first in-person worship service in two years was held at Trinity Faith Christian Center. We are grateful to Bishop A.D. Jones and congregation for their kind hospitality. Thank you to the Rev. Gary L. Meekins, pastor of Harmony United Methodist Church in Millsboro, for his stirring message of hope, Nika Drew Reid for an outstanding job serving as worship leader, and all the speakers, dancers and musicians who made the service so meaningful.

And thank you to this wonderfully supportive community, to all of you who attended the banquet or the worship service, or rendered your support by purchasing ads in our souvenir booklet.

Once again, in faithful support of our mission, the Cape Gazette published a full-page ad to commemorate the weekend. We are so grateful for its continued support and for the support of all the businesses and organizations that contributed to the cost of the ad.

A special thank you to all who donated to our scholarship fund so far this year. Your support is always needed and appreciated in perpetuating and nurturing the legacy, vision and dream of Dr. King. Donations to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Organization may be made to P.O. Box 781, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Contributions will help fund scholarships for deserving youth in Sussex County and the ongoing work of the organization. As we continue our efforts to make the dream a reality, we solicit your prayers and support to help us achieve our mission in 2023.

Thank you and God bless!
