In the Dec. 12 article about the expansion plans for The Moorings community in Lewes, Don Smith is quoted as as saying, “This is good use of the unused green space.”
There is dry, tidal green space in this area, as this coastal area is already covered with high-density housing and commercial space with even more proposed in the near future.
Green space is not unused; the trees filter and clean the air, and provide clorophyl that makes the oxygen we breathe. Spaces undeveloped with detrimental turf grasses allow for beneficial support of the ecosystem and groundwater. This parcel supports deer, fox and possum (the possums eat ticks!), all beneficial to our own existence.
