Moravian University Big Band to perform Oct. 15-16

October 12, 2022

During the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival Weekend, the Episcopal Parish of All Saints' Church and St. George's Chapel will host performances by the Moravian University Big Band.

A concert of jazz and swing music is set for 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, in an outdoor tent at the All Saints’ Church parking lot, 22 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held inside the parish hall. The event includes the premiere release of the band’s recently recorded CD titled “Universe City,” in homage to the school’s designation as a university in 2021. CDs will be available for purchase at the concert.

The 28-piece orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Neil Wetzell, music department chair and professor at the university in Bethlehem, Pa.

Funding is provided through the generosity of the Lingo Music Fund, established in memory of Col. Jack Lingo by his family.

Following the concert, an ensemble of Moravian students and professors will accompany the All Saints’ and St. George’s Adult Choir at the Annual Jazz Mass at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary of All Saints’.

The band will also perform a jam session following the 9:30 a.m. jazz mass at St. George’s Chapel, Sunday, Oct. 16, at 20271 Beaver Dam Road, Route 23, Harbeson.

These events are free and open to the public. Free-will offerings will be taken to offset the cost of these productions.

Those attending the Saturday concert are invited to bring their own beach or folding chairs as no seating will be provided for the outdoor concert. Due to the special performance, the church parking lot will be closed to vehicles until after the concert. For more, email info@allsaintsandstgeorges.org or call 302-227-7202.
